The Real Story of a Real Model: Solveiga Mykolaityte

A few months ago we had the chance of interviewing Solveiga Mykolaityte, a professional model who has been featured in magazines such as Vogue and FHM, modeling all over the world and has a successful career both online and offline!

Modeling is not as easy as people think.

Read the real story about a real professional model.. her fears, failures, difficulties, and success stories since she decided modeling was her dream.

I began my real model career much later than they are used to in the model world – only after my studies.

It might have been because of my first unsuccessful attempts. I was 15 when I went to the first auditions, but I was told that my overly athletic figure was not acceptable (I was then attending a sports school, I was in professional sports), in addition to my broken nose.

Then I forgot everything, the model work was not my main goal. I wanted to complete the gymnasium and then to engage in studies.

When I was 19, I decided to make my first professional photo session with a good photographer. Looking at my pictures I realised that the camera loves me, but I still did not dare to venture and begin a serious model career. From time to time, I was doing this job in my motherland. Fashion magazines, events.

During studies I worked in the agency which organised beauty pageants and had a model database. They performed castingsWatching it all from the outside, I gained experience.

Finally, I made up my mind for my first trip to Milan. The start was very difficult. I did not anticipate it could be so difficult. Completely alone, in a huge foreign city, another language, different culture, different people. Running from one audition to the other, with a map on my hands. I wanted to escape from there, abandon everything and go home. But my desire and my willingness to overcome myself was stronger.

After all, I will not get lost, I thought to myself. Since school I knew that I will be travelling around the world. I was not a child of Lithuania, I felt myself a child of all the world, and therefore I had to see it.

I had to adapt quickly. Everything gained momentum, and I was successful. I lived in Milan, then I had trips to LondonParisLos AngelesNew YorkSingapore. Photo sessions in exotic lands and islands.

Later, I settled in New York where they have the most hectic pace of life, from what I ever have seen. It is a city where everything radiates energy.

I was lucky to work with the most famous designers, make photos for best magazines, and get familiar with the world’s and Hollywood’s celebrities. But most important and valuable achievement is that this job allowed me to learn more about the world, to meet many interesting people, to hear many interesting stories, experience many different cultures, and see the beauty of nature and architecture.

And only then I became a child of the world.

I’m happy I did not start the model career too early. Maybe this is the way it meant to be. The destiny puts the things where they belong.

But there are girls who begin the career merely being 13-15 years old. In this age it is still difficult to understand what the world is, what the people are, who are good ones and who want to take advantage of you. Therefore, it is very important to choose good agencies who have a responsible approach to their model careers and safety. Beginning to work in a young age, you have more opportunities to achieve and ensure good career in the world of fashion, but there is also another, negative side of the coin: even though this world is very beautiful, but losing your sense of reality and getting lost in it is very easy.

A girl of 14-16 years old leaving her home country for the first time, and settling in a foreign country alone, beginning to work as a model, thinks she is a celebrity and she now got all the world at her feet. This can make your head spinning and your career end without even starting.

Therefore, I wish everyone to pursue their dreams not only with a purpose in mind, but also with responsibility.
