Police receives call about elderly couple crying at home. They were lonely!

Police in Rome were called to a block of flats in the Appio area of the city after someone reported hearing crying and shouting, Italian newspaper, La Repubblica reports.

When the officers visited the home, no crime had been committed. Instead, they found 84-year-old Jole and her 94-year-old husband, Michele, alone in their home. The elderly couple were the ones crying, but not because they were in physical pains, but because they’d been suffering from “incurable loneliness”.

Jole and Michele had been married for nearly 70 years, but no one has visited them in a long time: All their neighbors have moved away and their city hasn’t been as full lately due to summer holidays. Jole and Michele decided to put on their television to watch, but it was full of bad news! Michelle asked her husband why there was so much hate in the news that day.  They started crying so loudly that someone in the building heard the cry and called the police.

The police headquarters in Rome documented the account of their evening with Jole and Michele on their Facebook. Agents Andrew, Alexander, Ernesto and Mirko took the situation into their own hands and asked the couple if they could make them dinner. The policemen put together a meal of spaghetti, butter and Parmesan cheese. They spent the evening chatting and socializing with the couple.

Loneliness is sickness. Love is all we need. Let’s always visit and spend time with one another
